Death Matters

The way in which someone dies can inspire people to campaign for change, for example by challenging economic inequality, approaches to healthcare, public safety and prejudice. Those experiencinggriefcan find it helpful to stay connected to other people and to help others.  

A Blue Plaque for David Oluwale, with the crest for the Civic Trust Leeds and their owl logo. The plaque details that David Oluwale moved from Nigeria to Leeds in 1949, but faced years of persecution and eventually died in the river. His cause of death was unknown, but two police offers were imprisoned for related crimes.

As well as advocating for change, individuals can make practical decisions about their own care, funerals and belongings.

Talking about death can be difficult, but it can help bring peace of mind and take the difficult decision-making away from grieving loved ones.
