Stone Age Fashion

Archaeologists believe that humans began to make and wear clothing around 500,000 years ago. Britain was very cold during this time, and so our Stone Age ancestors wore fur and leather from hunted animals to keep them warm!

During the Neolithic era, the first needle and thread were invented from animal bone. This allowed our prehistoric ancestors to tailor their furs and leather. During warmer periods, clothing woven from reeds and other plant material were an essential part of Stone Age fashion.
