Pattern

A pattern is something that happens in a regular or repeated way. In maths, a pattern is a series of items (such as shapes or numbers) that may follow a certain order or rule.

Another word for a pattern is a sequence.

In shapes, there are patterns called tessellations, where the repeated shapes fit together in a pattern without gaps or overlaps – such as bricks in a wall.

An intricate tesselation drawing where black and white lizard-like creatures are rotated and repeated to fill the page, seamlessly filling the area without any gaps or overlaps.

Can you spot some tessellations?
