Introduction

This learning journey is designed to introduce you to some of the inventors and inventions originating in Leeds. These inventors met with varying degrees of success with some going on to patent their inventions and some not. Read about John Smeaton and Matthew Murray or John Blenkinsop's rack and pinion railway. Find out more about 'the Little Nipper' and the developments in cinematography.

Learn about the work of designers and engineers who have influenced the development of products today and in the past.

 

KS3 History

Unit 11 Industrial changes action and reaction

Through using the resources students should gain a greater understanding of the impact of patents, innovation and intellectual property as well as increase their knowledge and understanding of industrial heritage in Yorkshire. Students should be able to use these resources to develop their own materials.  They should also increase their awareness of the type of materials available from libraries and museums which can assist them in their studies.
