Working in the Camp in Harsh Conditions

Prisoners of war working in the muddy yard between the camp huts. Conditions were often cold, wet and unhygienic, and many men had to carry out physical labour despite illness or poor nutrition. This photograph gives a clear sense of the harsh environment prisoners lived in. Image © Ian Fairley
