Votes for Women Banner
Votes for Women banner.
This banner was made by Florence Lockwood in 1909 and originally featured the slogan “Votes for Home.” It was carried in the Women's Coronation Procession in London on 17 June 1911, a major suffrage event organised by the NUWSS and WSPU, attended by 35,000 people. Banners from across the country were displayed, many honouring historic women like Joan of Arc. The Huddersfield banner, however, depicted a factory scene, highlighting the region's industrial heritage and the working-class women who were central to the suffrage movement. The banner was later used in the 1913 Great Pilgrimage, which concluded with a rally at Hyde Park attended by 50,000 supporters.
