Mohammed Sadiq and Family in Wakefield

Photograph of Mohammed Sadiq and his family. Mr Sadiq arrived in the UK in the 1960s. After working in a mill, he went on to work for West Riding Buses for 25 years, starting out as a conductor then becoming a driver. The first migrants were usually the men of the family, who came to Britain to work, filling a labour shortage after WW2. Next to arrive were teenage and young boys, followed by mothers and any remaining children after the immigration rules were changed in 1968.
