Mammoth Tusk

Mammoth remains, like this example from the Humber region, are often found amongst dredged loads. This find measures around 70cm long and is the tip of the tusk of a woolly mammoth. Material was extracted from one end of the tusk which was used for carbon-14 dating analysis, suggesting that this tusk dates to around 40,000 years before present.
