M&S Staff Manchester 1898

This is the first M&S staff photo, taken in Manchester 1898 it shows the Oldham Street Penny Bazaar staff. Left to Right: Ada Probert, Laura Cowburn, Esther Brown, Cissie Rowland, Hilda Cartright and Gertrude Proctor.

This is the photo that the artist Van Jones used when creating the Leeds Market painting. The young woman second from left (standing) is Laura Cowburn, and he used her face for the sales assistant in the painting.
