Jar of Pineapple Conserve

In the 1700s pineapples were the ultimate symbol of wealth and prestige. Imported from the tropics, a single fruit could cost about £11,000 in today's money! During the 1800s, trade from the colonies increased their availability, decreasing their price and soon they became a common ingredient.
