Capability Brown's Plan for Temple Newsam Estate

This drawing shows the layout planned by Capability Brown for the grounds of Temple Newsam in 1762. Previously, landscape design had been very symmetrical and rigid, but Capability Brown's designs reflected a more natural looking approach. His pathways curved, he planted clumps of trees and included water features such as lakes with bridges over them.
