Retired Lead Miner, Mr Thomas Hall 1890

Black and white photograph of Mr Thomas Hall, a retired lead miner. He is sitting with his dog in a stone doorway smoking a pipe, and wearning a hat with a brim, light colour jacket with a waistcoat and knee length breaches with long socks and traditional leather and wooden clogs. Thomas Hall of West Burton, Wensleydale was born in Derbeyshire but moved to Yorkshire early in life and spent most of his working life as a miner. This photograph is one of the few 19th Century photographs of a Yorkshire lead miner from Robert T. Clough, The Lead Smelting Mills of the Yorkshire Dales
