1932 Archive Document Regarding a Lascar Sailor

Archive document from 1932 sent from the First assistant to the Resident in Kashmir, confirming that Mohammed Ismail is a British protected person from Jammu, Kashmir State. Despite their service during WW1, and their position as members of a British colony, sailors from the colonies who wished to stay in the U.K. after the war had to go through a lengthy and bureaucratic process to stay. If they were successful, the certificate then only lasted 5 years.
