M&S Melted Cash Float 1940

This image shows a melted cash float from M&S Bristol store in 1940, where there was a devastating fire after a bombing raid. The store was completely destroyed and these melted coins, found in the wreckage, were all that remained of the cash float (coins and banknotes used by employees to give change to customers paying in cash).
