Camp Theatre Performance

A theatre performance staged by prisoners of war inside the camp. With no women present, male prisoners played every role, including female characters. Productions like this were an important way to escape the routines of camp life, share humour and support each other's morale. This photograph was taken during Alexander Fairley's captivity, probably at Stalag 383. Image © Ian Fairley
