Jean and the table top (the girl in the yellow jumper) by John Bratby
I like this painting because it reminds me of what household life is like where mother in the house tries to keep everything together and sometimes that doesn’t seem to work out and she looks like she’s fed up and thinking hard about what’s going on and her face is slightly red and looks frustrated like she’s just shouted and she has put everything out on the table and nothing seems to have been touched really. Partly the conditions they are living in are quite poor. The table is quite big and large so she is probably feeding a bigger family but the family don’t exactly spend much time together. On the table is what we use every day like cereal, your cornflakes, your washing up liquid, your cutlery and your household uses. I like the paint because it looks like you could touch it. This type of painting makes you want to touch it as well so you can also have a feel of what its like going on of how it feels and how it effects the picture and how it makes it stand out.
