Fish Slice
Fish slice made from Old Sheffield plate in 1782
A fish slice is a flat implement used for serving fish. By shaping the slice in the form of a fish, its purpose was clearly shown.
Fish was a very popular dish in the 1800s and was served in wealthy homes.
It was thought to be very bad manners to break up fish when serving, so the fish slice was created to help people to keep it whole when serving.
