Tea Urn

Tea urn made from Old Sheffield plate in the early 1800´s

This elaborate object is a tea urn. Can you see the tap where the tea would be poured from?

This tea urn has been made in the shape of an animal's home, or hive.

Do you know which animals live in hives?

Tea urns would be placed on the sideboards of wealthy homes from around the mid 1700s. Tea was once a very expensive item as it had to be brought from far away countries.
