How do we know about the Leeds Pals?

We know about the Leeds Pals by the letters, images, documents and oral histories they left behind with their families. We can also find out about how they lived in Breary Banks through archaeology.

 

The University of York has recently done an archaeological dig at Breary Banks and discovered many find which have helped us to piece together how the men lived at the camp and what daily life was like.

We know about their lives after the war through War Pension documents. There was a different definition of disability in the 1920s, and only certain disabilities were pensionable.
