Preston: Past and Present

Further Activity - City Centre Trail

We have suggested a route around Preston city centre which could be used to take pupils on a trail looking at buildings - see Related Links at the bottom of this page.

Compare the present city centre environment to old photos of the same locations - we have provided a Word document (see Worksheets link below) containing nine photographs of the locations marked on the trail:

  • Winkley Square
  • Church Street
  • Lancaster Road
  • Market Street
  • New Cock Yard
  • Orchard Street
  • Church Street
  • Fishergate
  • Avenham Lane

The trail is 1.3 miles, and should take between an hour and an hour and a half, with time to stop and discuss the photographs. If you have a camera, you could take some new photographs to use back at school.
