Portraits

Tinsley Infants School Work

Pupils from Tinsley Infant School in Sheffield created a large scale mural of self-portraits. Working with artist Jane Leigh, the pupils were asked to paint portraits of themselves as they aspire to be in the future. Amongst many other characteristics, they close to show themselves as doctors, footballers, pop stars, artists and lawyers. Unsurprisingly they all chose to be happy!

These workshops were funded by DCMS and DfES under their Strategic Commissioning programme 2005-6, a project which encourages national and regional museums and galleries to work together to share collections and expertise. They supported the exhibition at the Millennium Gallery Heroes and Villains: The National Portrait Gallery Collection through the Eyes of Gerald Scarfe.
