Forces War Records sponsorship
You might have noticed a new logo has appeared on the pages of our First World War resource suite - this is because it has been sponsored by Forces War Records and the logo links through to their website at www.forces-war-records.co.uk
What is Forces War Records?
Forces War Records hosts over seven million military records – from the Napoleonic Wars to World War Two. The site was launched due to demand from members of Forces Reunited, an online community for British military and veterans, who were researching military ancestors.
Over 200,000 new records of transcribed data become available every month, many of which are unavailable elsewhere. The website also offers contextual information on the various regiments, units or ships individuals served with and provides a highly accessible and informative resource for students or researchers. Users can also browse through over 2,000 publications via the website’s Historic Documents Library
The site’s latest release of Territorial Force Nursing Service (TFNS) Medal Rolls was originally donated to the Army Medical Services Museum. Over 7,000 civilian nurses volunteered to work with the TFNS in military hospitals, and eventually overseas, during the First World War. These women were awarded a number of medals and now researchers and their descendants will be able to find out more about their war service.
