External partnerships include Children's Services: SureStart, Manchester City Council, Manchester Adult Education Service, NIACE.
The aim of the partnerships is to:
* Develop Early Years and Family Learning within museum and gallery settings
* Offer training and development opportunities to museum staff and early years and family learning practitioners
* Involve parents as partners in Early Learning programmes
* Develop understanding and clear definitions of family friendly, family engagement and family learning within museums and galleries
* Develop and share transferable delivery techniques, products and services

'Hands on Gang' are five characters (finger puppets) that have been created to represent the five museums in Preston. They are used specifically to market the museums as welcoming to families. In addition, there are Hands on Gang branded activities at each museum to involve all the family.
