Description:

The network's basic aim is to be an umbrella organisation to support the provision of learning services for all ages by a range of different cultural specialists in the local area - these are museums, archives, libraries, and visitor attractions.

This means that the partners work singly and also together to promote access to learners ranging from local school children to retired people, and for a range of purposes ranging from for fun to formal study, using the wide variety of cultural attractions in the Cumbria coastal area.

The coastal region of the catchment area means that we have members from Silloth down Cumbria's coast to Barrow, and including Maryport, Workington, Whitehaven, Egremont, Muncaster, Ravenglass and Millom.

Your History - On the Road

The Cumbria Coast Learning Network used a Museums Development Hidden Histories grant, to provide a touring exhibition and outreach programme, to raise their profile and engage disadvantaged groups, particularly in rurally isolated areas of west Cumbria.

Using the Cumbria County Council Library Service’s Access Bus, they met communities on their own territory. A programme of lively and entertaining activities was delivered to reflect the diversity of collections across the partnership, which were tailored to the culture and heritage of each local area visited.

The North West cluster has been involved in four Action Research projects:

1.Romans
2.Sailors and Sailing
3.Archives
4.Video Conferencing.
