Armley Mills: Then and Now

What was Armley Mills?

It was once the largest woollen mill in the world, and one of the largest employers in the Britain supplying customers across the UK, North and South America, Europe and the Far East with cloth.

What is Armley Mills now?

In 1969 Armley Mills closed and reopened as a museum in the 1980's; its aim is to tell its customers the story of industry in Leeds throughout history. A large part of the museum is dedicated to illustrating and explaining mill life as it was when the mill was open.
The museum also hosts other collections, such as tools from the past, steam engines, optics and cameras collections and an original 1920's cinema!
