Snake Skins
All of these snake skins were seized by HM Revenue & Customs from people who were trying to bring them into the country illegally. HM Customs often loans objects like these to museums and other services to be used for educational purposes.
Indian Rat Snake
This tanned, blackish snake skin is leathery to touch and would have been used to make small goods like belts, shoes and purses due to its size.
African Rock Python
This tanned, large and patterned snake skin is also leathery to touch and would have been used to make larger goods like handbags.
Python
This snake skin has been dried out and is non-tanned, meaning that it is far more delicate than the rat snake and rock python snake skins. These are often sold as tourist items to use as a decoration.
