Everyday Life in the Industrial Revolution
Introduction
Everyday Life During the Industrial Revolution looks at the lives of families during Britain’s transition from an agricultural to an industrial economy. Was life better for them once they left the countryside and settled in the towns? Were they richer or poorer? How did they manage the budget? Could they afford to eat and if so what did they eat? How did they manage to keep clean?
Background information is included but there are also practical tasks to complete (see Worksheets links below). Children can experience trying to make ends meet, including doing the family shopping. They can try their hand at making some Victorian recipes popular with the working classes, and they can make a fizzy bath bomb from simple ingredients to help remove some of the factory grime.
