Explore some of the more intriguing collections at the Hull Maritime Museums. The objects selected provide an insight into Victorian culture, especially the popular past time of visiting Freak Shows. During the Victorian period, the ‘Freak Show’ was a popular form of entertainment.
Despite everyone being unique in some shape, colour or form, back in the Victorian period, any human or animal that was unfamiliar was considered to be curious and worth paying money to see. Here, the objects, skeletons, and casts of real people reveal stories of Captains and sailors arriving home with tales to tell and money to make.
