Exploring Nature and Pattern Through Art

Nature

Ruskin believed that nature was important and wanted us to take care of the environment. He wanted us to enjoy all the colours and patterns of nature as much as he did. That is why he decided to create a gallery: so he could show what he had collected to the rest of the people of Sheffield. He also asked artists and crafts people to create paintings and objects for him to put on display.

In the gallery you can see and touch some natural and man-made objects.

Do the man-made objects feel similar or different to the natural objects?

Can you think of some natural materials and some man-made materials?
