Every Object Tells a Story

Mystery objects

Aim of the activity: To explore some ‘mystery objects’ from the past, and discuss ways that the meaning of objects changes, or can get lost over time.

Sometimes, over time, objects get separated from their special stories, and even lose their meaning. We have to try to work out the purpose of these ‘mystery objects’ using clues of sight, sound, touch and smell.

Your local museum should be able to loan you some mysterious objects from the past, or you may be able to source them in antique shops or car boot sales.

Encourage your learners to explore the objects, and try to work out what they are. The 'senses' worksheet pictured here (from the Resource pack) may help you.
