Culture Quake: Interpreting a gallery creatively

Music - songwriting

A museum or gallery can provide lots of wonderful ideas for creating songs and lyrics. By walking around the Ruskin gallery, students found many objects that inspired them and prompted ideas for lyrics. The images on this page are just four of the objects in the gallery that the students focused on when writing the songs.

The students also enjoyed experimenting with different sounds. They wanted their songs to tell a story of their gallery visit. The song ‘I see…’ allowed each pupil to contribute a line and each one of them sang a solo line during the performance.

Some of the pupils were initially reserved but having ownership over their music gave them the confidence to sing, direct a musician, voice what they wanted in a recording studio visit, and to play an active part in creating their own videos.
