Bride and Groom Dolls

These bride and groom dolls were made around 1910 in Shanghai

On their wedding day a couple are dressed up in the fine silk robes worn by the wealthy and successful. The groom wears a mandarin's badged coat and the bride wears a lucky red outfit. These dolls come from a set made by abandoned girls saved by the 'Door of Hope Mission' in Shanghai. The mission sold the girls' work to raise funds.

These dolls form part of the collections at Leeds Museums and Galleries.
