Artistic Inspiration

The Travellers’ Tales exhibition in the Graves Gallery was the starting point for an exploration of the way in which artists have recorded their experiences of travel. The exhibition included numerous sketches, oil paintings and watercolours from Sheffield’s collections. It also contained examples of objects collected by travellers such as Islamic ceramics.

'The traveller sees what he sees, the tourist sees what he has come to see.' G.K Chesterton

These two paintings were on show as part of the Travellers' Tales Exhibition and were among many which the students looked at to find inspiration for their own project work
