A Passion for Fashion - Madame Clapham Revisited

Cream Corded Wedding Dress (1892)

The wedding dress is made of pink/cream corded silk and has a v-neck line. It has eight bunches of wax orange blossom decorating the neck line. The large puffed sleeves have extended lace cuffs.

The pom-pom 'pinked' flower decoration along the hem has two large bunches of wax orange blossom. The pom-pom flower decoration was cut with pinking shears which leave a zigzag trim along the edge of the cloth.

The saw-tooth pattern on the pinking shears prevents corded silk or woven cloth from fraying. The dress is fastened at the back and has a long train with lace flounces.
